KELAGHAYI WORKSHOP

A Craft Space Preserving Basqal’s Ancient Silk-Weaving and Kelaghayi Traditions

The Kelaghayi Center operating in the Basqal settlement is currently the only center in the region engaged in the production of kelaghayi and is also one of the most visited destinations by tourists. The complex combines residential, production, and block-printing areas, preserving Basqal’s rich handicraft traditions.

One part of the center was established as the residence of the project creators, Rana Ibrahimbeyli and Jalil Tariverdiyev, while the remaining sections have served the production of kelaghayi and the preservation and development of traditional ornamental art.

Within the framework of the new project, the Silk Center is planned to be reorganized into residential, museum, and production sections. The technical building located within the site will serve the daily needs of employees, including rest and dining facilities.

The main goal of the project is to preserve Basqal’s ancient silk-making heritage, pass the art of kelaghayi on to future generations, and transform this place into a unique center of culture and craftsmanship for both local residents and tourists.
