Restoration of Shusha Fortress

Shusha Fortress Restoration Project

According to Article 77 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, protecting historical and cultural monuments is the duty of everyone. Historical and cultural monuments are the national wealth of the people. The state ensures the protection of historical and cultural monuments, guarantees the establishment, operation and development of institutions necessary for their scientific research and promotion, and creates conditions for the effective use of monuments.

The design documentation for the restoration of the Shusha Fortress was prepared in 2021 by BIMD Closed Joint-Stock Company, taking into account the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, and existing best practices in this field.

The main objective of the project was to restore the historical appearance of the surviving parts of the Shusha Fortress based on archival data and bibliographic research, to carry out repair and strengthening works of construction structures, and to prepare project documentation for repair works where necessary.

In addition to local qualified specialists, foreign experts were also involved in the restoration process. The restoration of Shusha Fortress, considered one of the pearls of our cultural heritage, is an honorable and responsible task for every Azerbaijani involved in this work. The specialists carrying out the restoration applied the most modern approaches and experience in the field, taking into account that every stone of the Shusha Fortress is valuable to us and rich with the glorious pages of our history.

“Shusha is ours! Karabakh is Azerbaijan”
